What is Faith Guardian?

Faith Guardian is faithed's comprehensive child protection system designed to safeguard minors (under 18) from exploitation, grooming, manipulation, and spiritual abuse while respecting their privacy and supporting healthy faith development.

Every minor on faithed must have a verified Faith Guardian - typically a parent or legal guardian - who receives safety alerts and activity summaries without having complete access to private messages or personal content.

Our Dual Commitment

Safety First: We protect young people from predatory behavior, exploitation, and spiritual manipulation.

Respect Privacy: We honor minors' developing faith journey and appropriate privacy boundaries.

Who Can Be a Faith Guardian?

To serve as a Faith Guardian, you must meet these requirements:

â„šī¸ For Parents & Guardians

Your role as Faith Guardian is crucial. You're not spying on your child - you're creating a safety net that allows them to explore their faith, ask questions, and build community while being protected from those who would exploit their innocence or manipulate their spiritual development.

Guardian Responsibilities

As a Faith Guardian, you have both rights and responsibilities to protect the minor in your care:

🔔

Safety Alerts

Receive immediate notifications when our AI detects potential grooming, manipulation, or exploitation in the minor's interactions.

📊

Activity Summaries

Weekly overview of the minor's activity: who they're connecting with, what types of content they engage with, and community participation.

âš™ī¸

Account Controls

Ability to restrict messaging, pause account temporarily, or adjust privacy settings if concerns arise.

đŸ‘Ĩ

Connection Review

See who the minor is connecting with and approve/block adult connections outside their faith community.

🛑

Emergency Intervention

Immediately lock account and review all recent activity if serious safety concerns emerge.

đŸ’Ŧ

Open Communication

Platform-facilitated conversations with your child about digital safety, healthy boundaries, and faith questions.

âš ī¸ What Guardians Cannot Do

Full Message Access: You cannot read all private messages. We provide risk indicators and flagged content, not complete surveillance.

Force Theological Views: You cannot use Guardian controls to force your child to accept specific theological positions or suppress sincere spiritual questions.

Punish Faith Exploration: Controls are for safety, not for preventing exposure to different Christian traditions or perspectives.

Ethical Boundaries & Best Practices

Faith Guardian is designed to protect, not control. These ethical guidelines ensure healthy relationships between guardians and minors:

✓ Do This

  • Respond promptly to safety alerts
  • Have open conversations about online interactions
  • Respect age-appropriate privacy
  • Encourage healthy faith exploration
  • Use controls proportionately
  • Model healthy digital behavior
  • Trust but verify concerning situations
  • Celebrate spiritual growth

✗ Don't Do This

  • Read every private message
  • Punish sincere theological questions
  • Block all connections to other denominations
  • Use Guardian role to enforce your beliefs
  • Shame normal developmental questions
  • Share their private content publicly
  • Dismiss their spiritual concerns
  • Violate their appropriate autonomy

Respecting Developing Conscience

The goal of Faith Guardian isn't to prevent your child from encountering different Christian perspectives or asking hard questions. It's to protect them from exploitation while they develop their own faith and conscience (Romans 14:5).

Your child may explore denominations different from yours, question certain doctrines, or connect with believers from diverse backgrounds. This is healthy spiritual development. Guardian controls should protect safety, not prevent growth.

When to Intervene

Knowing when to use your Guardian authority requires wisdom and discernment:

Support & Resources

You're not alone in this role. faithed provides ongoing support:

"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my child doesn't want a Guardian?

Faith Guardian is required for all users under 18 - no exceptions. However, we encourage open conversation about why these protections exist. Many minors come to appreciate the safety net once they understand it's about protection, not surveillance.

Can I be Guardian for someone else's child?

Only with legal guardianship documentation. If you're a mentor, youth pastor, or family friend concerned about a minor, encourage their parents to become Faith Guardians or contact us at [email protected] for special circumstances.

What happens when they turn 18?

Guardian protections automatically expire on their 18th birthday. They'll receive full account control and can choose whether to maintain any family sharing features.

Is this available internationally?

Faith Guardian is available in most countries, though verification requirements may vary based on local regulations. Background checks use local databases where available.
